- Eeek a Bug!
- by David Dunham
-
- As most of you know by now, we have just released EV Override, the monster follow up to Escape
- Velocity. We have run into a few issues, and I appreciate all of the help I've been getting from users in
- tracking them down.
-
- Some issues that were caused by conflicts:
-
- •When the map or outfit ship dialogue boxes were opened the graphics went to black and
- white. This one was easy. Andrew Robinson reported the problem, correctly diagnosed as a
- conflict with FinderPop. Disabling the Enable "Control Free" popups in all applications under
- more settings took care of the problem. I've heard from Turly O'Connor, FinderPop's author,
- and he is already working on a fix.
- • The text in the displays in the right side of the screens would display the wrong font, which
- was too large to fit into the windows. I heard from Gene Feierstein, who pointed out that
- removing the Lucinda Sans Font from the system folder eliminated the problem. This took
- care of the problem for almost all users. Removing related fonts took care of the problem for
- all users.
- • Some other issues we have workarounds established for: When opening EVO the ships all
- display the same graphic, though the ship readout is correct. Increasing EVO's memory
- allotment seems to eliminate this one. So if you are experiencing this problem go to the File
- Menu, to Get Info and then increase the minimum and preferred memory by 2-3 megs.
- • When quitting EVO the screen goes white, causing a hard crash of the machine. Sometimes
- increasing the memory eliminates this problem. If not, then the user should try manually
- changing the monitor to 256 colors before launching EVO.
- • Some issues we are still looking into: When EVO is launched all seems well, but the ship
- won't hyperspace. The ship just moves across the screen until it reaches "the edge of space"
- and then it will just hang there. This bug is often accompanied by sound issues, sometimes the
- music will only play out of one speaker, sometimes it will only play for the opening.
- • Sometimes when a pilot goes into Adgazari space, his combat rating will display incorrectly. It
- will appear as garbled code. It seems to correct itself when in UE space.
- • In some spaceports when a pilot upgrades his ship, if the blaster turret is the first item, then
- the text will display incorrectly. It doesn't affect game play as the items can be bought and
- sold with no problems.
-
- If you experience any of these problems and the suggested workarounds don't work for you then
- contact me at help@ambrosiasw.com. Try to note all circumstances and then write up a description of
- the problem with as much specific details you can provide and a system report, including machine, OS
- version, RAM, hardware upgrades, and most tedious, a complete extension and control panel list.
- Your help and cooperation have solved a lot of the problems so far, thanks much.
-
- Other issues:
-
- • We have also encountered some problems with missions. If you think you've come across a
- mission that's behaving incorrectly, first be sure it really is not working properly and that you
- haven't just missed a part of the mission. If you are sure, then note all information about the
- mission you can, including where you got the mission, who offered it, what the objective
- was, what you accomplished, what was supposed to happen and what didn't. Any specific
- info you provide will help us out. "Hey man, I couldn't find the alien dude", just won't cut it.
- ;-)
- • Some users reported trouble downloading EV Override. Well it is the largest file we have ever
- offered and the response to EVO was overwhelming. The combination of the large download
- and the huge amount of traffic may have contributed to a few corrupt downloads. Everything
- should be back to normal now, we apologize for any inconvenience and aggravation.
-
- We also just released the 1.1.0 version of Snapz Pro. This version seems to have taken care of most
- issues with Snapz Pro. However, a few users have reported that occasionally Snapz Pro will stop
- displaying the capture palette and will just capture the screen by default. Trashing the SP prefs,
- rebooting and then reconfiguring SP takes care of the problem until it arises again. If you experience
- this, please try to note all circumstances you can. What app were you trying to capture, what apps
- were in the background, what app you last successfully invoked SP in. Then please, write up a
- description and send it to me with a system report. I'd like to ge to the bottom of this little mystery.
-
- Some of you have experienced a conflict with our games and the control panel GoMac. I am happy to
- report we are working with Proteron on fixing this little bug.
-
- Whew, I guess that's all for now. Remember, if you are contacting tech support anywhere, the more
- relevant info you can provide, the better chance of getting a solution. Thanks.
